Hushmail Service Updates

Between Monday and Wednesday this week Hushmail suffered several periods of incoming and outgoing email delivery delays. On Wednesday, we had interruptions in webmail and IMAP service which resulted in some people being locked out of their accounts for several hours. This happened following an unexpected spike in traffic to our website and email servers, largely due to an increase in activity by spammers.

As you may recall, we performed significant upgrades to our infrastructure in May of this year. This upgrade gave us with the ability to quickly increase our capacity to handle extra traffic by adding more servers. Unfortunately, this week there was so much extra traffic that we did not have enough additional servers on hand. More servers are on their way to us now and will be online soon.

All Hush services are currently stable and fully operational.

Most services have been restored after today’s service interruptions.  For a small subset of Hushmail accounts, incoming email delivery is still being delayed.  We expect this to be resolved over the next few hours.

Update 4:20 PM Pacific Time: People who are still experiencing incoming email delivery delays may also experience slow page loads when using Hushmail.  This is related to ongoing service issues that continue to impact only a small subset of accounts.  We’re working to find a solution to these issues, and we’ll update this site as soon as we have more information.

We’re currently experiencing much higher than normal usage of Hushmail, which is resulting in pages on our website (including webmail) loading slowly for many people.  For a small subset of accounts, no Hushmail services are currently available.

We’re working to eliminate outgoing email delivery delays, caused by a large increase in the volume of email being sent from Hushmail accounts today.  Our email servers are working their way through a huge backlog of outgoing email.

We don’t have an estimated time yet for when service will be fully restored, but we’ll post an update to this website (HushmailStatus.com) as soon as more information is available.
