Some users may experience email delivery delays

July 22nd, 2008 1:17 PM by Toby

As a result of system maintenance performed earlier this afternoon, some users may experience delays with incoming and outgoing email delivery while our mail servers work through the email queue.

In addition, Hushmail Premium users with IMAP access may experience difficulty sending email from their desktop email program.

We expect these issues to be resolved shortly.

Update 1:39 PM PDT: Hushmail Premium users with IMAP access should no longer have any trouble sending email.  Any emails sent during the system maintenance period earlier have not been lost and will be delivered shortly.

As many of you are aware we experienced a period of downtime on Monday, July 14th 2008.  Service has now been completely restored.

The service downtime was the result of a power failure at the data center where our servers are hosted. The power failure was caused by an electrical fire which in turn caused a widespread power failure across downtown Vancouver.  Unfortunately, our data center’s redundant power failed shortly after the initial power failure.

We have a detailed chronology of what happened available in an earlier post on this website.  In the future, we will announce all Hushmail status updates on www.hushmailstatus.com, which is hosted in a separate data center.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you and we appreciate your patience Monday during the outage.
